Waiting is Part of the Pleasure ⏳
A blog equivalent to Daft Punk's “Make Love” playing on repeat
So many of us have become used to having pleasure at a moment’s notice, that anything taking longer than an immediate dopamine release can seem like a waste of time.
Spoiler: desire needs time. It needs layers, atmosphere, space, and some breathing room to unfold.
Anticipation is the part of desire that happens before anything happens at all: the calculated pause before an embrace, the handwritten note that arrives at the perfect moment, the gaze across the room that somehow changes the temperature of a room. Anticipation is far more than a prelude. It is already part of the good stuff. 🔥
There is real psychology behind why waiting can feel so good. The brain is wired to respond to anticipation, which can heighten focus, increase arousal, and make pleasure feel more vivid once it arrives. In intimate settings, the slow build often does as much work as the moment itself.
Anticipation also connects to how the brain processes reward. Research on motivation and pleasure suggests that uncertain or delayed reward can actually make an experience feel more intense, because the mind stays engaged while waiting for the outcome. In intimate contexts, this can mean that the build-up itself becomes part of the pleasure, not just a countdown to it. The tension holds attention, and when that moment arrives it often lands with much more presence.
Reflection
This week, we’re inviting you to get a little more curious about what actually makes pleasure feel more alive for you. Think back to a moment that stayed with you, alone, with someone, or even something in between. Why does it stick in your mind?
Exercise
Choose one pleasurable ritual you already enjoy and intentionally let it take a little more time (but honestly more than a few minutes). Stay in a feeling before moving on, and notice all of the changes when you stop rushing through what already feels good.
BTW, we explore so many more topics involving intimacy and pleasure on our blog and Instagram. Follow along to stay updated! ❣️
