Embracing Body Positivity in Winter —
A guide on practicing body positivity and self-care during the colder months ❄️
Yes, we are in the dead of winter, but would it help if I reminded you that the days have been getting longer and brighter since December 21st? We’re on the rise, friends, and only brighter days ahead.
With the holidays drifting off into the distance and every influencer bellowing about their resolutions from the rooftops, it can be a time when body image and mental health take a backseat. Here are some ways to be a little kinder to yourself as we thaw out and look ahead to warmer days.
🧣 Layering up with love
This is the perfect time to get rid of clothes that might not fit right or generally feel off. Whether it's chunky knits or soft leggings, or a slinky skirt, dress in a way that makes you feel fantastic. It’s not the time to put yourself in uncomfy shoes or clothes that don’t make you feel like you. Make sure to pick clothes that feel good on your body.
🛁 Self-care in different forms
Being kinder to your body and acceptance isn’t just skin-deep. It’s also about how you feel inside. This is the time to sip on a hot cup of tea or snuggle under a blanket and connect with yourself. Journaling or meditating can also be great ways to nurture inner warmth and love. Don’t put unneeded pressure on habits or resolutions, but rather do what feels good in the moment. Scrolling on TikTok doesn’t count — in fact, trying a social cleanse for a day or two might be just what the Dr. ordered.
💃 Move and groove
Exercise is not a punishment. Let me say that again: exercise is not a punishment! It’s a gift for yourself, your body, and your mind. Find an indoor workout that you enjoy. It could be yoga, dance, or even just stretching. There are a ton of dance sweat videos that probably feature your favorite artists. Remember, the goal is to celebrate what your body can do, not punish it.
✨ Solo dates
Think about your perfect day. What does it look like? For me, it’s waking up without an alarm, making a smoothie, coffee, and doing light movement like stretching or walking. Then it’s going thrifting, getting a yummy lunch, going for a hike, coming home, taking a long shower or bath, ordering food, and then settling in with a good book or movie. What’s yours? Plan a full day and hit every item on your list. You deserve the perfect day.
😌 Prioritize your pleasure
Masturbation is a fantastic tool for self-soothing, boosting your mood, and connecting with your body. It can relieve stress, improve sleep, and even benefit your overall sex life. If you’re looking for something unique, Clone-A-Willy and Clone-A-Pussy are great for masturbating solo or partnered — while also being the perfect way to play around and celebrate your body for its own unique beauty.
🍛 Food as fuel
Now is the time to experiment with hearty, nourishing recipes. Or indulging in a savory and comforting homecooked meal. Cook with love and savor every bite, knowing you're fueling the amazing body you're learning to love more and more each day.
Embrace winter for what it is — a season, not a setback. It's a time of change and reflection and growth. It’s an opportunity to grow and nurture love for yourself. Here's to slogging through the rest of the winter with some self-love and warmth.
