A Cozy Fall Check-in: Reconnecting With Your Body 🪞🍂
Animated GIF by Into Action
Now that we have arrived at ~cozy season~, the advice to “reset” is everywhere - or is this just our algorithm?
“Reset your routine.”
“Get back on track.”
“ Make the most of the last few months of the year…”, as though our bodies are just another project. 🤨
What if we don’t actually need a new version of ourselves? How can we reflect and honor what our bodies have provided for us? How can we celebrate our bodies and still reflect on what else we could bring more of into our days?
Fall can be a great time to check in with yourself and to ask what you may need more of: rest? Movement? …a little more pleasure?
Read on for a guide you can always come back to, focused on making room for the things that help you cozy in your body! ❤️🔥
First things first: a check-in
Are you tired or overstimulated? Do you want to move, or have you spent the week pushing through? Are you craving company, solitude, touch, or an evening where nobody asks you to make another decision?
Checking in doesn’t mean tracking every single thing in a fitness app, or turning a feeling into some kind of problem to solve. It can be as simple as asking yourself,
What do I need today?
For some folks, shorter days bring a noticeable shift in mood and/or energy. Seasonal affective disorder is REAL. If a change in mood is persistent or affecting your daily life, then it’s worth speaking with a healthcare professional.
More comfort food and feel-good movement
‘Tis the season of soup, roasted veggies, and all things comfort. It’s also the season of less motivation for outdoor activities. Find movement experiences that bring you joy, and make you feel good.
Re-evaluate your personal space
Our surroundings shape our everyday experience, though we realize that changing a room cannot solve bigger pressures like lack of time, privacy, or secure housing. It’s important to start with what’s within reach. What would make home feel a little easier to settle into?
Assure yourself that you deserve even tiiiiiny pleasures in the everyday
Pleasure can be taking your time with an activity you typically rush through, watching a nostalgic movie, having that silly conversation with a stranger, spending an evening molding your parts via one of our kits, or cancelling those plans you never wanted to make.
Instead of asking whether you’re doing enough, try asking whether you have enough time doing what you enjoy.
Here are a few ideas you can start with:
☐ Enjoy dinner without multitasking
☐ Go outside just to notice the changing season (crispy leaves!)
☐ Move your body in a way that feels enjoyable
☐ Make one small change to your space that feels more comfy
☐ Give yourself permission to rest
☐ Make time for a conversation, a hug, or another kind of connection you want more of
☐ Explore a form of pleasure, sensuality, or intimacy that feels right for you
☐ Put something on the calendar that you're genuinely looking forward to
☐ Let one thing go that you don't actually have the energy for
