Between a vampire story, a witchy sisterhood, a possessed hand, a reality-TV satire, and a David Lynch nightmare, we’ve round up our favorite spookies for this time of year.

It’s time to settle in: turn down the lights and cover up with something (and maybe someone) cozy! 🍿

Obsession

Yung Curry Barker's breakout indie hit begins with a familiar romantic wish: what if the personyou loved finally loved you back? Obsession is a reminder that getting what you wished for can be the beginning of a very bad time.

Nosferatu

Robert Eggers’ retelling of the cult classic leans into the old vampire mythology of sex, death, and possession, but we love that it gives Ellen, the love interest of the film,  a central role in the horror. This one’s a good watch just for the spooky sensuality.

Practical Magic

Now that the sequel is freshly released, it’s a good time to either rewatch or watch Practical Magic for the first time. It’s a true spooky-season comfort watch with an all-star cast and midnight margarita lore. Once you think you know where the story’s going, it turns itself around through an entirely new lane.

The Substance

Coralie Fargeat’s The Substance is about beauty culture, aging, and admittedly is not an easy watch! Once you see it, you can’t forget it.

We’re All Going to the World’s Fair

This is a quiet and strange film about the internet as both a refuge and haunted house. If you loved “I Saw the TV Glow”, then you’ll also love this one from Jane Schoenbrun.

Weapons

Watch Zach Cregger’s Weapons for the horror, and stay for the iconic scenes that became a cultural reference.

Beetlejuice

We’ve gotta include Tim Burton’s classic. Watch Beetlejuice when you’re craving a  spooky, funny, and visually strange evening.

Idle Hands

90’s horror comedy is a real vibe, and especially when the premise is as absurd as it is in this one. Idle Hands is great if you’re looking for low-stakes horror.

The Truman Show

We know The Truman Show is not a horror film in the traditional sense, but it is one of the most unsettling films to rewatch in our current era.

Twin Peaks: Fire Walk with Me

Sneaking in another iconic 90s classic: David Lynch’s Twin Peaks: Fire Walk with Me. Because this is a prequel to the series, it works best when you also commit to an entire season of Twin Peaks.
