We chatted with one of our pals, film photographer Chase Hart of My Friday Films about photo projects during a time of social distancing and what's to come in the future! Scroll down to see his newest photo set featuring his girlfriend / quarantine-partner Morgan Brooke ~
Q: Hi, Chase! Where are you currently living / quarantining?
A: Currently living in LA. I was on the road a lot this year and spent some time in Arizona as well. I moved to LA 2 weeks before everything shut down. Wonderful timing haha
Q: You featured your gorgeous girlfriend Morgan in your latest photo set for us (drool), what have you two been doing to stay entertained at home?
A: I've still been able to work on some projects for the most part. Also, we got in a very long road trip to Portland and that was great. Morgan has been spending most of her time protesting and fighting the system.
Q: Have there been any silver linings when it comes to your photo projects during the Pandemic?
A: Honestly, it's been difficult for me because I shoot normally 4/5 times a week, and I've done this for years. So not being able to do much haha drives me crazy. I've refocused more on art-driven work because I want to make a book someday. So I guess that has happened.
Q: What extra percausions do you find yourself taking when traveling and shooting with models?
A: To make things safer I've only been meeting on location and not shooting inside. I also haven't been using any MUA's so there is no person to person face touching. If we're outside and I'm wearing a mask, it seems like the best I can do with the situation.
Q: Where have you been finding inspiration in 2020?
A: Hmm, I'm really into Helmut Newton's work right now. I recently bought one of his books and it was 15 lbs haha
Q: What do you love most about shooting with film versus digital photography?
A: I literally can't get any feelings out of digital, looks completely flat. Everything about digital is post-process and editing. Film on the other hand has so much more feeling and emotion right off the scan. A lot of photographers that shoot digital edit their photos to emulate film.
Q: What do you look for in the models and brands you work with?
A: I don't often get to pick the brands I work for haha though I wish I could. Models though, I look for models that have personality. They have more than one face and can play a character.
Q: What does the future hold for you? What is next on your creative journey?
A: Trying to find a way to grind out a creative career in a time of transition. I would like to continue being a full time creative and so far so good.
