A History of Nude Communities (Part Three)
Back in 2017, guest contributor Erica Meryl Thomas covered the World Naked Bike Ride on our blog. As we’re currently running a series on communities thriving and connecting in the nude, it makes sense to revisit this wonderful event.
The World Naked Bike Ride is very clear on why organizers started and continue to plan these rides. Their wiki clearly states their intention is “to celebrate cycling and the human body. The ride demonstrates the vulnerability of cyclists on the road and is a protest against oil dependency.” The first-ever international naked bike ride is listed as a collaboration between those involved in WNBR and the Manifestación Ciclonudista in June of 2004. Since then, many different kinds of folks have been involved in the rides all around the world. It’s unclear which larger nude bike ride was the first, but what is certain is that there’s a real draw between these smooth machines and nude activism.
The wiki also proudly states that people who hold all kinds of beliefs, professions, economic statuses, and beyond come together as this bold protest. Wondering how you can support or get involved in future rides?
