How to Shop for Sex Toys
How to Shop for Sex Toys
a class review and recap of “the Joy of Toys”, part two
A few weeks ago, I was given information that I rarely thought about before but should: how to properly shop for a sex toy.
She Bop hosted a class in which the audience was given a brief history of sex toys and information about how to shop for them. The shop only carries body safe items, but gave some tips on how to shop elsewhere. Below is enough information to read through so you can shop with confidence.
Materials to Look Out For
Medical grade and/or platinum grade silicone is preferred. Nonporous materials means that bacteria won’t live on your toys. You can wash with soap and water, or boil in water. Watch out for phthalates in especially translucent and soft materials. They are toxic to the body, “chemicals used to soften plastics and have been shown to be potential carcinogens”. The more sensitive you are, the more dangerous it is to use these materials. If you already have these toys, make sure to cover with a condom when you use. Glass, metal, hard plastic and acrylic materials are also preferred for sex toys.
Things to Consider While Shopping for Vibrators
Do you plan on using your toy externally, internally or both? The length of the toy is determined by this (longer is more ideal for external).
How would you like for it to get power? Toys can be rechargeable through batteries or USBs, simply battery-operated and plugged in.
Do you want a fully waterproof toy?
How many different options, speeds and rhythms do you want?
G Spots
If there is a steep curve at the head of the toy, chances are it’s meant for g spot stimulation. Keep in mind that not everyone likes the pressure, but every female has one. These toys can be both hard and softer materials.
Penis Play Tips
Male strokers, flesh lights and masturbation sleeves work very well and range in sizes so they can be very discreet if that’s something you’re interested in. There are even disposable masturbators, called the Tenga Egg, although you can easily wash them and use again. Some strokers come with inner ridges, which make for a different kind of stimulation. Some fleshlights are disguised in beer cans for a creative way of being subtle.
Anal Toys
Gretchen laid out the reasoning behind why anyone would want to use a butt plug. She stated, “it plugs your butt and creates a fullness sensation.” Some people utilize these for anal sex preparation. It is designed to go in and stay in for the entire time it is being used. Make sure the plug is smooth and free of any seams or ridges from the manufacturing process so that there is no risk of tearing anything while playing. Gretchen’s rules given for anal beads were sweet and simple: When pulling out, make sure it is very controlled.
“You’re not starting a lawn mower.”
Make sure you are generous with lubrication and have enough nearby. Start slow.
Prostate massagers are accessories, even power boosters for orgasm. They are slightly curved towards the tip in order to hit the prostate, located 2-3 inches inside of the opening of the anus.
In the end, the search for the perfect sex toy comes down to realizing that you have to take your time to try new things. We’re all so different, so going with whatever worked well on someone else might not necessarily work well with you. Be patient, as adventurous as you’re comfortable with and keep your desires in mind.
